How it looks
- A rounded dark card, about 360 pixels wide at most, anchored to the bottom right of the window with a 16 pixel margin. On a phone it is the width of the screen less 32 pixels.
- One sentence in the store’s system font, light text on a near-black background.
- Optionally one link under the sentence in an amber colour, with an arrow: “See the Camp Mug →” or “Size guide →”.
- A small × in the top right corner to dismiss it.
- It slides up and fades in over a quarter of a second. Shoppers who have asked their device for reduced motion see it appear without the slide.
When it appears
- The shopper stops. NextIntent decides to speak. See The moment.
- The sentence is placed in a short-lived queue for that shopper. It waits there for three minutes at most.
- The page checks the queue every six seconds while the tab is visible. On the next check, it finds the sentence and shows the card.
How the shopper dismisses it
- Click the ×, or press Escape. The card fades out. The app records “dismissed”.
- Click the link. The page navigates. The app records “clicked”.
- Do nothing. The card stays until the shopper leaves the page. Nothing else appears.
Once per visit
After a card has been shown, the page remembers it for the rest of the browser session and never asks for another. A shopper who dismissed the shipping card and later flips sizes on a product page does not get a second card. The app also stops checking after fifteen minutes on a page, so a tab left open in the background is not polling all afternoon. When it is withdrawn before it is shown
A sentence in the queue can be pulled back before the page collects it:- The shopper bought. The order webhook or the checkout pixel reports a purchase, and any waiting card is withdrawn. A shopper does not pay and then get told how to get free shipping.
- The shopper left. The queue entry expires after three minutes. A shopper who closed the tab never sees a stale card on their return.
- The shopper went into checkout. The page stops checking on checkout pages, so a card cannot appear there.
What it never contains
- The shopper’s name, or anything about them as a person. The app does not know it.
- A statement that they were watched: no “we noticed you”, “still there?”, “looks like you’re stuck”.
- An offer, unless you allowed offers. And then only a code from your Discounts, to a shopper whose own code failed.
- A promise your store has not made: no “free returns” without a policy that says so, no “ships free” for a cart under the line.
- A link off your store.
- Anything a second time. One card, once.
