NextIntent bills through Shopify. Every charge is a usage record on your Shopify bill, one per credited order, and each one can be matched to the moment it came from on the app’s Moments page or in the ledger export.

In Shopify

Settings → Billing in your Shopify admin lists app charges. NextIntent’s line is the “Active mode” subscription with usage. Each usage record is described as “5% of a $72.00 order from a shopper NextIntent spoke to”. Shopify adds them to your regular bill on its usual cycle. Shopify does not charge NextIntent a commission on the first $1 million a year of an app’s revenue, so the 5% is the whole price; there is no platform cut layered on top.

In the app

Settings → Billing shows this cycle’s total against the cap. Money → The ledger shows the credited orders with credited_usd; 5% of each is the charge. Settings → Your data → Ledger (CSV) gives the same in a spreadsheet. See Exports.

When the meter runs

Once a day, in the background, the app reads the ledger, finds credited orders that have not been charged yet, and raises one usage record for each, oldest first, stopping if the next one would pass the cap. A record is keyed to the order, so an order can never be charged twice, even if the meter runs twice or a reply from Shopify is lost. An order placed today shows on Money at once and on your Shopify bill after the next daily run.

Approving the plan

The first time you turn Messages on, Shopify opens its approval page at the top of the window: the plan (usage, 5% of credited orders) and the cap ($250 to start). Approve it and you are returned to Settings. If the page says it cannot approve the charge, the store has no payment method for app charges. Add one under Settings → Billing → Payment methods in Shopify, then press Turn on again. If you turned Messages on before billing existed (early stores), Settings shows “Messages are live, but no plan has been approved” with an Approve the plan button.

Test mode on a development store

On a Shopify development store, billing runs in test mode: Shopify shows the approval page, records the usage, and charges nothing. Settings says so under Billing.
