# Settings overview

> A map of the NextIntent Settings page: the six sections, what each one controls, and which pages explain them in full.

Settings is one page in six sections, in the order a shop owner needs them: what the app may do, what it costs, what it may say, what it read from your store, the reports it sends, and your data. Each section has a short note on the left and the controls on the right. This page is the map; each section has its own page.

## The sections

## Two kinds of setting

**Saved on your store.** How to speak on the page, whether offers are allowed, the delivery promise and the size guide path are Shopify metafields on your shop. Product notes are metafields on each product. Shopify is the record; the app reads them back. You could edit them in Shopify's own metafield editor and the app would pick the change up.

**Saved with NextIntent.** The Messages and card switches, the held-back share, the report settings and the billing state live with NextIntent, because they are about what the app does rather than what your store is.

## When a change takes effect

Switches take effect at once for the next shopper. A change to what it may say or to a product note goes through Shopify and is read back into the facts sheet within a minute. The time of the last read is shown under **What it read from your store**; press **Rebuild** if you do not want to wait.
