# What "helped" means

> The one definition every number in NextIntent rests on: a shopper was helped only if a sentence was actually shown on their screen. How that is confirmed, and what it rules out.

Every figure on Money, every counted order and every charge on your Shopify invoice starts from one question: was this shopper helped? NextIntent answers it strictly. A shopper was helped only if the page confirmed that a card was drawn on their screen, or that your popup tool confirmed it displayed its campaign, or that your developer's code confirmed it rendered the moment. A moment merely handed to a tool, with no confirmation inside 8 seconds, is recorded as "did not show" and counts for nothing.

## What counts

* The page reported **shown** for a card, within 15 minutes of the moment.
* With **How to speak on the page** set to your popup tool: the tool accepted the campaign and the page reported shown.
* With it set to a browser event: the event fired and the page reported shown.

## What does not count

* A sentence was composed but the shopper left before the page collected it.
* A sentence was withdrawn because the shopper bought or went into checkout.
* The shopper was left alone to compare.
* Messages were off (watch mode).
* The shopper was in the same session as another moment and had already seen a card.

None of these shoppers were helped, so none of their orders can be counted or charged, whatever they bought afterwards.

## Why so strict

Attribution is the number merchants trust least in this category. The complaints are specific: a 72-hour window that credits any purchase, "assisted" sales that nobody assisted. The fix is a definition that cannot stretch. NextIntent's is: a sentence was on the screen, the same shopper ordered within seven days, one count per order. You can audit it: every counted order on **Moments** sits beside the moment it was counted against, with the sentence that was shown and the time it was shown.

## Where the confirmation comes from

The card on the page sends small reports back: shown, clicked, dismissed, and when a popup tool or your developer's code is in charge, handed off and not shown. The report carries the moment's id, so the app joins the report to the exact decision that produced the sentence, not to "whatever this shopper was doing around then". A moment with no shown report is a moment nobody was helped for, even if a sentence existed.

## When confirmations stop coming

The strict rule has a weak point. A store could let the sentence show and arrange for the page never to say so. Nothing would ever count, and nothing would ever be billed, while the sentences kept working. So the app checks, per month, whether confirmations are coming back at the rate they should.

Three things trip the check:

* Ten or more moments handed to your popup tool, and fewer than half confirmed.
* Ten or more of our own cards sent to the page, and fewer than half reported shown.
* The browser event in use, at least one moment handed to your code, and not one confirmation yet.

When it trips, for the rest of the calendar month every shopper we hand to your tool is counted as helped. A moment we handed to your tool, or sent a card for, counts as helped whether or not the page confirmed it, and its order is counted and billed. Each row on **Money** says which basis it stands on, and the line on your Shopify invoice says "(counted on hand-off: your tool did not confirm)". Home, Money and **Settings → What it may say** carry the notice with the date it started.

The comparison does not move. "Did it make a difference?" keeps grouping shoppers by what the page confirmed, so the proof is never built on an assumption.

The way back is the fix, not an appeal: correct the campaign id, make sure the campaign is live and triggered by our event, or have your developer's code call `NextIntent.shown`, or switch to our card. From the next month, confirmation counts again. A store that never ran a popup tool and whose embed works normally will not see any of this.
